How have the community consultation priority themes from the first round of consultation been addressed?

Key feedback themes from the first round of consultation

    Planning Response

Preserving the oval for community club sports, general community use for physical activity, and dog exercise

There will be no change to the oval in the proposed concept and the oval can continue to be enjoyed by the community for dog walking, exercise, or sports.

Replacing the old buildings around the site with a single modern complaint facility

All the old smaller buildings will be removed with the exception of the greenkeeper shed.

    Clubhouse location

Relocating the clubhouse was considered but was assessed as not being feasible due to a number of factors (refer to question 4 for more information).

The proposed building will be on the northwestern side of the oval. This site has a number of advantages:

    • Clubroom position is the same as the existing building.

    • Building connections can be made to existing services reducing costs.

    • No impact on regulated trees.

    • Retains a community court in the existing location.

    • No impact on the cricket nets or rose garden.

    • Northwestern building offers spectator protection from bad weather in winter and doesn’t face into the afternoon sun in summer.

    • No change to the oval.

Improving car parking around the site

    Increased car parking will be provided through;

    • 19 New -90-degree parks on Margaret Street.

    • 25 New car parks onsite.

    Improving security and lighting

Increased lighting and security will be addressed in the detailed plans as the designs progress.

Smaller buildings and shed will be removed.

Retaining a community court, playground, rose garden and cricket nets

A community court will be retained.

The playground will remain in its current location.

The Rose Garden and cricket nets will not be impacted by the development.

How is the project being funded?

Council have received a $5 million grant from the State Government towards the project following an election commitment from the Member for Badcoe. Council is working to ensure that any additional investment it makes towards the project deliver benefits to the community whilst minimising cost.

How will the development address the current and future needs of the community?

    • Community Gathering Space:

Create an inviting facility where the community can feel welcome to relax, and connect with one another, fostering a sense of community cohesion and belonging.

    • Multi-Purpose Spaces:

Design the site and building with flexible spaces that can accommodate various community activities, SEDA college activities and the needs of the sporting groups that use the site.

    • Enhanced Facilities:

Include upgraded amenities such as modern changing rooms, improved seating areas, and upgraded technology to support increased utilisation of the building.

    • Accessibility Features:

Ensure the new building is designed to be accessible to those with disabilities, by incorporating features such as ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms.

    • Sustainability Initiatives:

Implement environmentally friendly features such as energy-efficient lighting, water-saving fixtures, and renewable energy sources to minimize the building's environmental impact and promote sustainability.

    • Community Recreation

Improve the site with pathways, connections to facilities and recreation infrastructure.

    • Sporting Infrastructure:

Develop modern facilities that cater to a variety of sports and recreational activities, encouraging active lifestyles and participation in physical exercise.

    • Future-Proofing

Design the building with flexibility and adaptability in mind to accommodate future changes and evolving community needs, ensuring its relevance and usability for years to come.

Why can’t the clubroom be located on the eastern side of the oval?

    • Establishing a clubroom on the eastern side would incur higher costs compared to the current site in the northwest corner.

    • The current building services are situated in the northwest corner. Relocating them to the southeast would escalate project expenses.

    • Development on the southeastern side would encroach upon tree protection zones within the site and impact on the rose garden.

    • The community court would need to be relocated incurring additional expense.

    • An eastern location wouldn’t be optimal for viewing sports due to southwest weather and afternoon sunlight.

    • Shelters for sports would be necessary on the western side of the oval.

When can we see the building design?

When the site plan design has been further progressed a building concept design will be developed and shared to seek community feedback.

How many new car parks will the plan provide?

44 New car parks will be provided across the site and along Margaret Street

Will the T2D impact on the Glandore Oval Development?

Council is communicating with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) The plan that is currently available at https://www.t2d.sa.gov.au/ indicates that Glandore Oval will not be impacted by the T2D project.

Council will be exploring opportunities with DIT for linkages to potential additional open space recreation areas and recreation infrastructure as the Torrens to Darlington Project continues to progress.

    When will the upgrade commence?

Planning of the ovals new facilities has several stages that will be completed following this round of consultation.

    Estimated timelines are shown below:

    • Mid-2024 - Concept design completed. The community will be updated on the progress of the plan.

    • Early 2025 - Detailed design completed.

    • Early 2025 to Mid-2025 – Development Approval

    • Mid 2025 - Construction

How long are works expected to take?

Site works are expected to take approximately 12 months.

Will the oval be accessible during the upgrade works?

The aim will be to maintain accessibility to the oval while construction is in progress. Some areas of the site will need to be fenced off from public access during the construction period.
