    At the City of Marion we believe that our community should have access to a broad range of high quality sport and community facilities so that everyone has the opportunity to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

    To assist Council in developing a Master Plan we recently sought information from residents, including those that did not currently use the site, and requested feedback on the current facilities and their ideas for the future.

    In conjunction with City of Holdfast Bay we have recently conducted community engagement for the redevelopment of the former Lorenzin and Monier sites at Seacliff Park (also known as Cement Hill).

    In August 2012 we received confirmation from Minister Rau to proceed with the investigations which will inform the rezoning process.

    Since then the City of Marion and City of Holdfast Bay have been working together with the current owners of the land with a view to undertaking the necessary investigations to further the rezoning process. (Traffic Studies, Environmental Reports, etc)

    The development of a Recreation Plaza and upgrade of Oaklands Estate Reserve has been identified in the Master Plan for the site (2012), which incorporates a wetland, play space, biodiversity corridor and recreation plaza.

    The site is located at 257-265 Oaklands Road, Oaklands Park, and incorporates the Oaklands Estate Reserve, and former Driver Training Centre Site.

    Construction of the newly named Cove Civic Centre at Hallett Cove commenced on the 24 October 2013.

    We have engaged with the community to identify and incorporate what services and programs people would like it to deliver, as well as what the precinct and external spaces should look like.

    In 2008, the City of Marion developed a 15-year Play Space Strategy to ensure the community’s play spaces were well-designed, well-located, safe and fun for users. So far, 33 play spaces have been upgraded since 2010. Council has invested more than $4.4 million to upgrade the play spaces as part of this plan, which aims to ensure a range of quality play spaces at the local, neighbourhood, precinct and regional level.
