What is Resilient South?

Resilient South is a partnership between the Cities of Marion, Holdfast Bay, Mitcham, Onkaparinga and the South Australian Government that aims to progress and accelerate climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas emissions reduction action in the southern Adelaide region. Resilient South is one of eleven Regional Climate Partnerships that were implemented by the State Government in 2011. You can find out more about the work of this partnership on the Resilient South website: www.resilientsouth.com

What is the Resilient South Regional Climate Action Plan?

This Regional Climate Action Plan is the Resilient South commitment to continue to work together on climate adaptation and mitigation. The plan provides a strategic roadmap for the next five years.

The plan describes opportunities where our councils can work collectively to maximise benefits and help the southern Adelaide region to reduce emissions and adapt to a changing climate.

It will be implemented by the four Resilient South councils (Cities of Holdfast Bay, Marion, Mitcham and Onkaparinga) and focuses on actions where local government can exert the most influence by working together.  In addition to Resilient South actions, each of the four councils are committed to working in their council areas on their own climate projects and programs.

When did the first round on engagement on the plan take place?

Each Resilient South Council hosted an online community engagement between December 2022 and February 2023 to gather initial community input into the plan. A total of 615 community members participated in the online engagement which informed the vision and actions in the draft plan. There has also been targeted engagement with young people, Council members and Kaurna people.

How can I provide my feedback?

The draft Resilient South Climate Action Plan is available via the Making Marion page. You are invited to review the plan and provide feedback via the online survey.

What are the next steps after this round of community engagement?

Results from this engagement and engagement with other stakeholders will be used to prepare the final version of the Regional Climate Action Plan.  The final version will then be taken to each of the Resilient South council chambers for endorsement by each Council respectively.

What happens once the draft Regional Climate Action plan is endorsed?

The final endorsed plan will be publicly available on the Resilient South website (www.resilientsouth.com) and on the City of Marion website.

In addition, after the plan is endorsed, the Mayors from all four Resilient South councils, and the Minister for Environment and Water, will all sign a document called a ‘Sector Agreement’. This is a non-legally binding document that outlines the nature of the Resilient South partnership and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to work together.

Where can I see the progress of the actions in the plan?
