Will there be enough car parks?

    Yes, there will. Council has in place agreements with both the Lutheran and Baptist churches to develop land on their sites and convert into additional parking spaces for users of the centre. With development on both sides of Ragamuffin Drive and a redesigned road for ‘shared’ usage (cyclist, car, pedestrian) we are creating a precinct approach for the area.

    What are the features of the Cove Civic Centre?

    The features of the Cove Civic Centre will include:

    • a modern library,
    • flexible meeting rooms that expand into a hall for up to 280 people,
    • a computer training suite,
    • wi-fi and broadband,
    • a toy library,
    • baby change and feeding rooms,
    • an open kitchen,
    • forecourt and amphitheatre,
    • community meeting spaces and facilities, and
    • unique public art.

    What will the centre be called?

    After a community competition the facility will be known as the Cove Civic Centre. Council selected the name from 21 entries which included a mix of historical and indigenous names. Mrs Lesley Taylor, a resident of Hallett Cove for the past 27 years submitted the winning entry.

    What type of environmentally friendly features does the building have?

    The building has been designed to include as much natural light as possible. High-tech ventilation has also been included to allow for the flow of fresh air and therefore less reliance on heating and cooling. Solar panels will be installed to reduce electricity costs. Rainwater will be captured and recycled for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing.

    How large is the building?

    The footprint of the new building is 2010m².

    Q. When will the building be finished?

    It is anticipated that construction will be completed prior to Christmas 2014.

    Q. Who is the building company contracted to build the facility?

    Mossop Construction and Interiors have been awarded the contract to build the $13.4 million complex after a tender process.  Located in Hindmarsh, Mossop is a South Australian company with 30 plus years of experience.
