Revitalisation of the Edwardstown Employment Precinct - Project
Project Background
The Edwardstown Employment Precinct is the economic engine room of the City of Marion economy. It is host to over 4,500 jobs, over 1,800 businesses and provides $1bn into our economy.
Project Objectives:
- Enhance vibrancy and liveability of the area for local people
- Foster local commercial activity and business prosperity
- Raise the profile of the City as a business and visitor destination
- Improve visual and aesthetic appeal of the built environment
- Present increasing employment opportunities for all local residents
- Promote environmental responsibility through low-carbon initiatives and sustainable business practices
- Promote environmental and social benefits through encouraging local jobs for local people and minimising impact on transport infrastructure
- Generate financial benefit and reinvestment by the City for community projects and enhancement of services
- Support economic recovery
- Improve access to competitively priced goods and services
The 2021-2022 12-month action plan will commence in July 2021.
Highlights include:
- Greening of Edwardstown Part One to plant 175+ trees completed
- Established the business community meetings/ steering committee
- Business upskilling and networking program delivered
- Five case studies of businesses in Woodlands Terrace to promote energy efficiencies
- Economic Activation Plan
- Tonsley and Edwardstown Value Proposition and Capability mapping
- Creating the Edwardstown Brand
- Celebrating businesses for service to the area
- Greening of Edwardstown Part Two to plant a further 150 trees commenced
- Stobie pole art installation

Celebrating Edwardstown businesses who have operated for over 25 years
Community celebration to mark the completion of the Edwardstown Green Infrastructure Project (Part One)
Marion Council has kick-started the revitalisation of Edwardstown, completing the first stage of a plan to “green” the suburb by planting 176 street trees. It will upskill local businesses, create a brand to market the area and commission artwork for stobie poles recognising local businesses that have operated for over 25 years. Council has installed signage, is negotiating opening its first creative co-working hub in the area and will plant a further 150 trees.
Mayor Kris Hanna said: “Edwardstown is being transformed into a dynamic hub for employment, manufacturing, innovation, retail and industry”. “There are opportunities for businesses to link with the nearby Tonsley Innovation District. “Planting trees to cool streets and attract birdlife is the first step in improving the area for locals, visitors and investors. “We’re working with local businesses to create an ambitious long-term vision for Edwardstown. I thank the State Government for co-funding the tree planting”
On Monday 15 February the City of Marion hosted a community celebration event to celebrate the completion of part one of the Edwardstown Geren Infrastructure Project. In attendance was Mayor Kris Hanna, City of Marion, Professor Chris Daniels PhD DSc FAICD, Presiding member of Green Adelaide, Carolyn Powers MP, Member for Elder and Adrian Skull, CEO City of Marion.
Seven businesses have also been acknowledged by Council for their contributions to job creation and the Edwardstown economy. The businesses include Apex Home Improvements, Caddle Crash Repairs, Castle Plaza, Delway Brass, Kytons Bakery, Precise Machining and Manufacturing & Zonge Engineering and Research.
