Mark Simmonds started Simmonds Heating and Cooling 13 years ago shortly after completing trade school. Starting on his own, out of his mum's shed, Mark has grown the business and is now employing over 30 staff and recently won the HVACR Contractor of the Year in 2019. With a strong value on investing in the future of their workforce Simmonds Heating and Cooling currently employ 9 apprentices helping them to build the capacity of the next generation. Mark's first apprentice is still with the business today, 13 years on.

Today, Mark is the Managing Director, overseeing the residential sales and commercial team. His wife, Sarah manages the office and service team and together they successfully operate their family-owned business and continue to have a family focus. Until recently they operated out of the beachside suburb of Somerton Park, which they called home for over 10 years. They have just recently purchased and renovated their own warehouse in Edwardstown on South Road, with the help of their family to get it up and running, opening their doors in May 2021. The new space includes a showroom, office space and a workshop facility.

Even though their business is continuing to grow their values and connections with customers has not changed. You will often see Mark up on the roof installing with the boys, quoting and being hands-on with both the team and the customers. During the summer months, even Sarah gets out in the van to support Mark with service calls.

Oilpath has proudly been established in Edwardstown for almost 45 years developing ‘the brains’ of hydraulic systems for many industry sectors. Engineering is deep seeded in Oilpath’s history and stems back to the 1970’s when they pioneered control valve manufacture in Australia providing a 100% locally made product which soon became, and still is, the benchmark in the transport industry. They have since developed intelligent customised CAD & CAM Software systems to accelerate their “design-to-market” ethos and have invested heavily in CNC Automatic machines and robotics to feed their continued growth.

The Oilpath name is synonymous with manifold and directional control valve design in both the Agricultural and the Transport industry but they also serve Mining, Defence, Shipping and the specialist Mobile Crane markets. In fact, Oilpath has recently developed and produced a number of very large complex manifold solutions for the Shipping and Defence Industry, gaining valuable experience, which has enabled the company to take the next step in becoming a truly recognised advanced manufacturer making them very relevant in the Defence Industry.

Multi Slide Industries is celebrating over 35 years of manufacturing components and products from wire and strip and is one of Australia's leading wire and strip forming companies with one of the largest ranges of forming machines in the Southern Hemisphere. Operating two shifts, Multi Slide Industries is renowned for its contributions to the Australian car industry. Making the rear wire seat frames for all Holden Cruze and Commodore models made in Australia. As well as the wire spring torsion bars and exhaust brackets for Mitsubishi and Toyota cars.

They operate Australia's largest range of automated computer numerical control (CNC) machines used to form wire products with strip forming equipment utilising bending technology. Multi Slide Industries have two factories based in Edwardstown and process over 2000 tonnes of wire each year, manufacturing products for all major industry segments. From automotive to white goods to mining, agriculture and retail, their products are everywhere

Their product range includes roof tile clips and gutter brackets, mining industry safety clips and support rods, wire-based frames for seats and tables for the furniture industry and cheese racks and other wire-based items for the food industry, just to name a few.

They also manufacture vine trainers for the wine industry allowing new shoots from grapevines to attach themselves to the wire, training the vine to grow up the post. These stakes reduce the time of installation by two thirds over the traditional twine used, a significant productivity gain, do not break in high wind, are friendlier on contractor’s backs supporting WH&S, maintain shape and are reusable.

Garon Plastics is based in a 1,500 square metre property in the Edwardstown industrial area and specialises in custom injection moulding, tool manufacturing, 3D printing and product development. The innovation specialists manufacture their sister company SEAPA’s innovative oyster baskets and accessories through Garon’s state-of-the-art injection moulding facility. Delway Brass is a proud South Australian, family-owned business. Established in Edwardstown in 1987 by a husband and wife, today Delway Brass is managed by the founder’s daughter and son-in-law.

Delway Brass first started manufacturing a proprietary range of bathroom fittings and fire screens. While the business started as a brass manufacturer it did not stop there. To ensure all fabrication processes and finishes could be produced in-house and to secure complete control of the finished product the business grew to accommodate a range of departments.

Today the business consists of steel and brass fabrication, a metal polishing shop, a powder coating division and an electroplating plant. With Delway having over 33 years of experience as a manufacturer and metal finisher the focus today is very much on the restoration and finishing of metals.

CEO Lisa Weidenhofer has transformed the business from being solely a manufacturer to the service provider they are today. Utilising the existing capabilities and by changing the focus of the business Lisa has ensured the business’ longevity in the Edwardstown area. Barry Caddle started his business over 40 years ago on his return from Vietnam and completing his National Service in 1971. His former panel beating job was not available, so he commenced detailing vehicles for a company whilst renting a shed in the Edwardstown area and repairing vehicles. Not long after he moved into a three-car garage, still in the area, and started his own business with the aim of becoming one of the best repairers in South Australia.

Today, Caddle Crash Repairs has been in business for almost 50 years and has more than 25 employees. It is now one of the largest and most up to date crash repair workshops in South Australia repairing up to 50 cars per week. Sons, Brenton and Michael who both commenced in the business as apprentices before transitioning into management are working hard to keep the business up to the highest standard in service and technology.

Caddle Crash Repairs was one of seven businesses to be acknowledged by Council for the contribution to local job creation and to the Edwardstown economy.

A business in Edwardstown is leading the recycling drive by packaging products using wooden pallets, newspapers, and cardboard discarded from neighbouring companies.

VDL Adelaide Spare Parts Store dismantles wrecked vehicles, salvaging everything from seats, engines, bumpers, electronics, gear sticks, and dials before selling them online. Owner Paul Vine is also on a mission to convert the remnants of a 1955 Volkswagen Kombi into an electric vehicle. The former accountant who turned his back on the corporate world a year ago said his business combines two of his passions. "Reusing packaging salvaged from local businesses saves us money, reduces our environmental footprint, and the waste disposal costs for businesses that provide it to us,” Mr Vine said. “I’m passionate about creating an environmentally sound operation and have always been a car fanatic. “My aim is to use solar energy to run the workshop, power the forklift, and eventually the Kombi.” Mr Vine moved his business from his home in Glenelg to a workshop in Edwardstown last year. He recently installed solar panels at the workshop thanks to a $10,000 grant from Marion Council. “We distribute about 200 parts each month, 25 percent of which are sent to Europe for cars like Volkswagen, Audi, and Mercedes,’” Mr. Vine said. “Edwardstown is accessible, and an ideal place to do business.”
