This consultation has concluded.

Council recently conducted a community survey of Hazelmere Reserve, as an evaluation of the playground upgrade. The findings of the community survey were presented to Council at its meeting on 11 December 2012.

The survey findings illustrate that over 90% of survey respondents are happy with the reserve following the upgrade. The main suggestions for further improvements to the reserve include shade over equipment, additional seating, and minor access improvements. Council values all suggestions and is considering their implementation.

As you may be aware, Hazelmere Reserve has different dog access requirements for particular areas or ‘zones’ of the reserve. The ‘Playground and Picnic area’ of the reserve has previously allowed dogs on leash, except within 3 metres of any playground equipment, which was to be dog free.

The survey feedback on dog access within the playground and picnic area indicated that the majority of the community preferred this zone of the reserve to be dog free. Health and safety concerns have been raised in relation to dogs being present in an area of the reserve that is for children’s play and the consumption of food.

With consideration of the community’s best interests, at its meeting on 11 December 2012, Council endorsed the ‘Playground and Picnic area’ of Hazelmere Reserve to be dog free.

Signage illustrating the updated dog access requirements at Hazelmere Reserve will be installed.
