  • Oaklands Reserve Inclusive Play Space - Community Survey - closes Friday 8 August 2014

    Project background

A master plan was prepared for Oaklands Wetland and Reserve in 2012 and is being implemented in stages. Council is progressing the design of the inclusive play space and reserve development, and seeks your ideas to shape the design.

The ‘inclusive’ playground at Oaklands Reserve will cater for all of the community including children with special needs such as mobility, vision and hearing impairments as well as spectrum disorders such as autism.

Marion Council and the Touched by Olivia Foundation are working together to build a unique playground at Oaklands Park for children of all ages and abilities.

The Perkins family founded the charity in 2006 following the loss of their baby daughter Olivia to a rare disease. It aims to bring together communities, government and corporate Australia to create healthier and happier lives for children by building inclusive playgrounds.

Both the foundation and the council share a belief that every person has the right to be part of their community. More information on the foundation is available at www.touchedbyolivia.com.au(External link).

In addition to the inclusive play space, Marion Council is also planning for the upgrade of the existing reserve, including the biodiversity corridor, landscaping, pathway connections, Japanese garden, vineyard, while considering the existing duck pond.

  • Jervois Street Reserve - Preliminary Consultation Community Survey - closes 22 August 2014

    Project background

A new precinct level "community park" (6,000sqm) has been identified at number 37-47 Jervois Street, South Plympton with the aim of improving civic pride, community interaction, health and well being.

The land had previously been owned by Renewal SA (Housing SA) and has been purchased by council with assistance from the State Government.

Council is undertaking a two-part process to deliver the project.

Part one includes concept designs and community consultation and is due to completion in 2015.

Part two is subject to funding, council endorsement and would involve detailed design and construction.

Developing an endorsed concept will enable council to actively seek funding to build the project.

We need your help to allow us to create a concept vision of the site.  This is your space so help us shape it.

Public consultation was conducted in Aug/Sept 2012 and responses were received via on-line, hard copy feedback forms, email submissions, written submissions and 2 drop in sessions.

    WHERE TO FROM HERE?

In Nov/Dec, a public tender process for the projects was conducted and the successful contractors were recently appointed. Works will now commence as soon as practicable in January 2013.

Completion date for the projects is June 2013 and we are confident that we can meet this time frame, with planting occurring soon after the major works are completed.

Upon completion of the Sturt River path, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to safely walk and cycle along the Sturt River, connecting with the Westside Bikeway to the north/north east and the Sturt River Linear Park to the south.

These projects are our contribution to the expanding network of safer walking and cycling areas in metropolitan Adelaide, to encourage behavioural change, reduce car use and emissions, improve our health, our well being and enhance community interaction.

In conjunction with City of Holdfast Bay we have just completed community engagement for the redevelopment of the former Lorenzin and Monier sites at Seacliff Park (also known as Cement Hill).

In August 2012 we received confirmation from Minister Rau to proceed with the investigations which will inform the rezoning process.

Since then the City of Marion and City of Holdfast Bay have been working together to engage with the current owners and potential future developers of the land with a view to undertaking the necessary investigations to further the rezoning process. (Traffic Studies, Environmental Reports, etc)

In November 2012 we held two community workshops to identify your aspirations for the site.

Council recently conducted a community survey of Hazelmere Reserve, as an evaluation of the playground upgrade.

The survey feedback on dog access within the playground and picnic area indicated that the majority of the community preferred this zone of the reserve to be dog free

With consideration of the community’s best interests, at its meeting on 11 December 2012, Council endorsed the ‘Playground and Picnic area’ of Hazelmere Reserve to be dog free.

Signage illustrating the updated dog access requirements at Hazelmere Reserve will be installed
