In 2020, the City of Marion commissioned a feasibility study to identify options for the development of a local museum. The study highlighted various precedents of other Council Museums within metropolitan Adelaide as well as ongoing operation costs. The feasibility study:

  • Identified 6 options for the development of a local museum
  • Reviewed current possible museum sites with the City of Marion against a set of criteria
  • Provides a SWOT analysis for the establishment of a local museum within current council owned facilities

Council endorsed further exploration of a custom museum space extension at the Marion Heritage Research Centre (MHRC) (aka Red House) in July 2020. Architectural firm Grieve Gillett Andersen (GGA) were engaged to develop possible designs for a museum/exhibition space. Council indicated their preference for design option A on 27 January 2021.
