Closed Consultation - Oaklands Community Connections:

The City of Marion are working on an exciting project between Oaklands Crossing and Diagonal Road.

During May 2019 we conducted community consultation to close the northern portion of Diagonal Way to create a larger community park and pedestrian/cyclist link from the new train station to the Regional Centre.

June Update 2020

Construction works will commence on the redevelopment of Dwyer Rd Reserve which will include:

  • New playground facilities inclusive of climbing net, swings, combination play unit with slide
  • Smart technology interactive play elements
  • 3 on 3 basketball and netball
  • Solar powered shelters with Wi-Fi availability and device charging stations
  • Nature play elements
  • Smart BBQ that informs of maintenance requirements and frequency of use
  • LED lighting with dimming sensors
  • Smart irrigation system with weather sensor and soil moisture probes.
  • Extensive landscaping, tree planting and turf
  • Walking and cycling pathways
  • Wayfinding signage
  • Creation of 7 indented car parking bays on Dwyer Rd and formalisation of 33 car parks on Diagonal Way.
  • Public art

Plans and illustrations of the redevelopment can be viewed here

You can see historical documents here

The Project will achieve multiple benefits including:

  1. Enhanced streetscapes
  2. Better pedestrian and cyclist movement
  3. Creation of a larger public park at Dwyer Road Reserve with new play ground and amenities
  4. Smart technologies that enhance the experience of the precinct for local community and visitors
