Recreation Community DPA

Consultation has concluded

Council is proposing to rezone a number of recreation grounds and community centres in order to support future development and use of these facilities.

Council’s major recreation grounds and some of the larger community facilities are currently located within a “Residential Zone” or “Open Space Zone”.

These zones are not appropriate for larger scale recreation and community facilities as they are quite restrictive in the type of land usage. Council intends to change these facilities to a more appropriate “Community Zone”, which better aligns with future plans and possible expansion of these sites.

Community consultation was conducted between 22 February to 19 April 2017.

We thank those who provided their input and we are currently summarising feedback to provide the Minister.

  • What exactly, will be the likely impact to Glade Crescent Reserve? i.e. new buildings, new infrastructure? What guarantees does the Council provide to residents living close by, that there will be no increase to traffic and noise coming from the Reserve area?

Brett Mitchell asked over 2 years ago

Hi Brett, In response to your query about Glade Crescent reserve I can provide the following.

A masterplan for Glade Crescent underwent public consultation and then Council approval several years ago where issues such as parking and noise would have been taken into consideration as part of this process.

A number of stages, including the playground and at least one of the wetlands are complete. Revegetation, tree planting, a number of the trails and the remaining wetland/s are to be constructed over time.

If you have any more questions about the reserve please contact Glynn Ricketts on 7420 6416 and we can also arrange to send you a copy of the master plan.

Please feel free to email us so we can contact you directly at  communityengagement@marion.sa.gov.au

Glade Crescent Reserve and most of Councils other large reserves/recreation facilities are currently covered under the Residential Zone. Whilst the Residential Zone allows for small scale local recreational uses it does not provide appropriate support  for some of the activities currently being undertaken at Council’s larger existing facilities or improvements to those facilities.

The proposed Community Zone better reflects the activities taking place at the various facilities covered by the proposed zoning amendment. In this instance, the playground, wetlands, bike/pedestrian trails etc
