Project update - December 2023

Council have recently awarded the build contract to CAMCO who are an Adelaide based civil construction company. Construction is scheduled to commence in February 2024 and works are expected to be complete in August 2024. Background

The City of Marion in partnership with Renewal SA is co-funding and implementing Alawoona Reserves and Streetscape improvements.

The former Mitsubishi Motors assembly plant at Tonsley is well underway to being completely redeveloped as the - Tonsley Innovation District - an integrated employment, education and residential precinct by Renewal SA.

A concept plan for the Alawoona Reserves has been developed and includes open space reserve and streetscape upgrades as part of the overall Tonsley Precinct Master Plan.

The concept plan for Alawoona Reserves and Streetscape includes:

  • Traffic calming and streetscape improvements to Bradley Grove roundabout

  • Indented car parking on Alawoona Avenue

  • Enhanced footpath connections to Tonsley precinct, train station and surrounding community services

  • Walking and cycling connections

  • Water Sensitive Urban Design rain garden stormwater management solution

  • Landscaping with additional native plantings

  • Areas of irrigated lawn for passive recreation

  • Formalisation of car parking off Woodland Drive for train commuters

  • Public art gateway statements

The project is also supported by Green Adelaide funding through its Cooler, Greener, Wilder Grant.

Community Engagement Phase

A draft concept design was available for community feedback. During consultation, a community drop in session was held at the Three Little Pods Cafe, MAB, Tonsley Innovation District on Thursday 2 February 2023. The community engagement closed on 28 February 2023.

Based on this feedback, we will now proceed to update the concept plan and commence detailed design. Next steps include:

    • Detail design March July 2023
    • Tender for construction August - December 2023
