February 2024 – Project update: Concept plan now available for consultation

Following on from initial community and club consultation in late 2023, several priority themes for the upgrade were identified:

  • Preserving the oval for community club sports, general community use for physical activity, and dog exercise
  • Replacing the old buildings around the site with a single modern compliant facility
  • Clubhouse location
  • Improving car parking around the site.
  • Improving security and lighting
  • Retaining a community court, playground, rose garden and cricket nets

An initial concept plan that considers the themes where possible, has now been developed for community consultation. The plan is not final and may be reviewed subject to the feedback we receive. We invite you to provide your feedback by completing the survey below.

We will be holding two community drop-in sessions (registration not necessary) where you can come and talk to key members of the project team at the following times:

  • Glandore Oval: Monday 4 March (6-8pm)
  • Glandore Oval: Sunday 17 March (3-5pm)

Consultation closes on Wednesday 20 March.

Background

Glandore Oval is a key multi-purpose sports and recreation facility in the northern area of the City of Marion that is well-used by the local community.

The facility is home to community organisations and sporting clubs including the Adelaide Cricket Club and Westminster Old Scholars Football Club. Additionally, Black Forest Primary School has the right to use the oval and cricket nets at certain times under an arrangement with Council.

Whilst Council has made some upgrades to the site over the past five years, the clubhouse is ageing, and the site is in need of improvements.

Oval Precinct Plan

An opportunity now exists to create a precinct plan for Glandore Oval that provides a clear vision for the future development of the site. Planning work will consider the needs of all site users and aim to ensure that Glandore Oval provides for the community’s requirements.

To initiate the project the State Government of South Australia provided $5 million through a 2022 State Election commitment.

Key deliverables for the precinct plan include:

  • Review the site and consider options for improved facilities.

  • Provide a new multipurpose building to support the sites activities

  • Integrate the design of the proposed facilities into the broader planning and development of the site and its surroundings.
  • Retain and improve the oval layout where possible.
  • Plan for improved traffic management and car parking, pedestrian/cyclist movements and connectivity.

  • Improve community safety.

  • Accessible Amenities: Provide accessible toilets and changing rooms and pathways, ramps, and seating areas that are wheelchair-friendly.
Female-Focused Facilities: provide changerooms and facilities to support the growing participation numbers in junior ages groups and women’s ‘teams.

How can I get involved?

There will be a number of opportunities for you to provide your suggestions on the layout of the site and to have a say on what elements should be considered in the plan.

Council is commencing the community consultation and design process in September 2023, at which stage the local community will be notified.
