Background
Gully Road Reserveliesbetween O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park and Arthur Streetin Seacliff Park.It is a beautiful linear reserve popular with both locals and visitors forwalking, cycling and recreation.
Council was successfully awarded$115,000 from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) towards an upgrade of the path through the Gully Road Reserve South area.
Council is also contributing $115,000 towards the project as part of the 50/50 funding agreement with DIT.
The projectforms Stage 1 of a proposed multi-year reserve upgrade strategy to improve access and enjoyment for local residents and visitors to the area and establish a new north-south walking and cycling connection.
Project stages and scope:
The upgrade of the path and facilities are planned to be undertaken in two stages:
Stage 1 - Gully Road Reserve North (Tracy St to Arthur St) construct from mid-2024.
The project includes the construction of a 3-metre-wide, 510-metre-long asphalt path, linking John Street with Tracy Street and Arthur Street, to establish a comfortable and accessible walking and cycling path through the reserve. Seats and some minor landscaping including trees and irrigation works are also planned.
Stage 2 - Gully Road Reserve South (Tracy Street to Davenport Terrace and the O’Halloran Hill Recreation Park) construct in 2025-26
Thisstage includes the construction of a 3-metre-wide asphalt path, linking the O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park trail head, Davenport Terrace, and Tracy Street to connect to Gully Road Reserve North. The planned works include three fitness nodes, seating, native landscaping, and irrigation.
