Why is the pilot project being undertaken in this area?

This area is a catchment where the stormwater flow is measured before it enters the Gulf of St Vincent. This will enable us to directly measure the positive impacts of an increased number of rainwater tanks through a reduced volume of flow to the Gulf.

How much would it cost to purchase and install a rainwater tank for use within my household?

It would cost approximately $4-5,000 to install a new rainwater tank (2.5kL) and plumb it to your household.

How much mains water could I save?

Some modelling indicates that you could save up to 40% of your household water use if your 2.5kL rainwater tank is plumbed for internal household use.

I don't live in the catchment area, will this initiative be expanded in the future?

Dependent on the results of this pilot project, this initiative may be expanded further across the council areas.
