Background

City of Marion recognises the importance of action on climate change for our community. This was in response to increased public and staff awareness and concerns over climate change and environmental impacts, and Council’s role in recognising and responding to these impacts.

The draft Carbon Neutral Plan that has been developed and sets out Council’s goals and targets in managing corporate carbon emissions and provides a plan to guide Council towards carbon neutrality.

This Plan has been prepared to assist City of Marion in understanding and managing its current carbon emissions footprint; and to set a plan to transition to net zero emissions.

The City of Marion Strategic Plan 2019 – 2029 states that: ‘We will operate more efficiently and sustainably in terms of energy and water use, using the best technologies and methods to be as self-sufficient as possible. We will encourage our community to be careful in their energy and water consumption'
