MCC PlazaRedeveloping our Marion Cultural Centre Plaza - Can this be Marion’s Town Square?

This is your chance to help shape the plaza outside the Marion Cultural Centre to create a vibrant town square for our City!

The City of Marion is undertaking a design by competition process to develop designs for the Plaza located outside the Marion Cultural Centre. Council has a vision to make this a vibrant public place where people can come to meet and relax.

Ideas from the First Community Workshop on Thursday 20 September

The design teams have listened to community ideas about the space and how you would like to use it and what you would like to see here.

The three Design Teams have presented their designs to community at a workshop held Saturday 10 November and the designs are now available for you to view.

Ideas from the Second Community Workshop on Saturday 10 November

What next

An Independent Jury is responsible for judging the three designs and recommending a final design to Council for their consideration.

The Jury has attended the public design workshops to hear the community ideas about how the plaza can be improved.

In assessing the designs the Jury will consider how well the designs have responded to the community vision for this space.

Why is this an ideal space? Consider the following:

    • Central within our City
    • Adjoins the Cultural Centre which attracts 250,000 visitor per annum and is a major cultural venue
    • Adjacent the highly patronaged South Australian State Aquatic Centre which hosts high profile National and International Events

    • Within walking distance to Oaklands Train Station

Three design teams have been selected and they will compete to be awarded the winning design. They will be asked to develop designs which respond to your feedback and capture the spirit of our community.

An Independent Jury has also been assembled and will be responsible for judging the three designs and recommending a final design to Council for their consideration.
