OPTION TWO
My family and I have lived across from the current lake for 27 years and have enjoyed the natural beauty of the lake and surrounding area. It is a very unique area, leading through to the conservation park and down to the ocean. Over the years, the lake has been declining in health with the number of Carp creating a muddy lake and the wildlife has certainly reduced. The spring (or lack of) leading into the lake has certainly been a concern for 18 months or so.This certainly needs investigating further. Wetlands provide a natural habitat for a wide range of native animals and can become important bird nesting sites. They also have have an aesthetic appeal, whilst being a place of calm and tranquility. Wetlands can effectively detain and treat stormwater. The current retention basin was created over 50 years ago. As a society, we are now much more informed of the environmental issues surrounding stormwater heading straight out into our oceans and the damage being done. I believe Option Two is the best environmental decision for the future. It would need a lot of planning and the plans would need to be shared with the local community moving forward.
