Ballara Park - Reserve Upgrade

The consultation has concluded. Thank you for participating.

About the project:

Located on Ballara Avenue, Warradale, this site is a well-utilised, local level playground adjacent to the Ballara Park Kindergarten.

Local level playgrounds primarily cater to people living and working within walking distance. These spaces are less developed with limited play equipment.

The site provides an exciting opportunity to align with the State Green Adelaide initiative to develop a "greener, cooler, and more climate resilient Adelaide."

The project includes a new playground for a range of ages and encourages people to explore, play and enjoy nature.

The existing play space will be removed, and the new playground will be built on one of the tennis courts.

One tennis court will be retained and upgraded for community use with a new surface and fencing.

The existing 3 on 3 basketball court will be retained and the shelter relocated next to the tennis court. The white chain fence along Ormonde Avenue will be removed. A small number of carparks on Ormonde Avenue are also suggested for removal to improve pedestrian safety and to protect and improve the health of the existing trees. There is existing on street carparking along Ormonde Avenue, Kelvin Avenue and Ballara Avenue which will stay.

The City of Marion worked closely with the Ballara Park Kindergarten children, teachers and parents to develop a draft concept design. Following this community feedback was sought. The opportunity to provide feedback closed on 20 December 2021 at 5pm.

A community drop in session to find out more about the upgrade was held at Ballara Park on Thursday 2 December 4-6pm.

Key elements of the design include:

  • Accessible in ground trampoline
  • Resurfaced tennis court with netball ring and new line marking
  • Monkey bars
  • Vertical climbing net
  • 1.2m high slide
  • Play panels
  • Swings
  • New drinking fountain
  • Book swap cabinets
  • Picnic setting
  • Seating logs
  • Landscaping
  • Potential Kaurna art elements

The Final Ballara Park Concept Plan and Community Consultation Findings Report is now available to view.  Detailed design is underway and construction is planned for the 2022/23 financial year.
