Overview
Due to low water pressure and flow in the area, the existing reserve irrigation system is no longer a viable option for watering the reserve.
This was discussed at a recent community meeting with surrounding residents and the Oaklands Estate Residents Association (OERA) on 19 November, along with options for the future irrigation of the reserve. Options included:
- connecting to the Oaklands recycled water scheme (not cost effective)
- installing a tank and pump (too much of an impact for a local level reserve)
- community watering with a hose and sprinkler
Following discussions on the options, the OERA and local residents agreed to work with Council on undertaking a community led watering program.
This approach will provide local residents with access to a hose and sprinkler in a lockable cabinet, to water the central lawn area through the dryer months of the year.
Next steps
The watering of the reserve will rely on community volunteers, so if you are interested in volunteering to water the reserve, please leave your details below.
We will then contact you regarding the installation of the required equipment, including access to the cabinet, and the approach to watering.
Council will be responsible for installing the hose and cabinet, and ongoing reserve maintenance, including mowing.
