UPDATE - FEBRUARY 2024

With works on the shared path now complete, the next stage is to progressively provide native garden beds and tree planting throughout the reserve, between April and June 2024. This will enable the plants to take advantage of the autumn and winter rains.

The trees and plants have specifically been selected to enhance the beauty of the reserve - please see the attached plan for details.

UPDATE - DECEMBER 2023

Upgrade works on the shared path are complete! Garden beds will be installed in the northern reserve in January / February, including habitat logs, and will be followed with the planting of a variety of native plants in May 2024 to take advantage of the Autumn and Winter rains.

Again, we would like to acknowledge and thank you for your patience as we completed this important upgrade.

UPDATE - OCTOBER 2023

Thank you for your continued patience as we deliver this important upgrade. The shared path upgrade has been delayed to avoid wet soil conditions and allow for careful excavation of the path adjacent tree roots.

To date, the concrete path has been removed and the base of the new shared path has been excavated through the southern section of the Breakout Creek Reserve (Beadnall Terrace to Frederick Street).

Weather permitting, the next phase will involve laying the asphalt, line marking the path, laying permeable paving, and installing new seats. This will bring the southern end of the reserve to completion around the end of November. We are focussed on opening this section for access as soon as is practicable, which may be before the completion of works.

The northern reserve (Beadnall Terrace to Maxwell Terrace) is expected to start in mid-November with completion planned by the end of December, and again we are working towards providing access before the project is complete.

Access to the playground and the YMCA and the playground will be maintained during this time.

We will continue to provide you with updates as works move towards completion.

UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2023

Construction Underway!

Shared path works have now commenced through the southern section of the Breakout Creek Reserve (Beadnall Tce to Frederick St).

Working hours are anticipated to be between 7am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, with access to be restricted to this reserve until approximately mid-October .

The northern section of the reserve (Beadnall Tce to Maxwell Tce) will remain open until Monday 16th October to allow access during the school holidays.

From 16th October, both the southern and northern reserve sections may need to close for a period of two weeks to allow the laying of asphalt, paving and other works to occur in a safe manner.

Access to the playground and the YMCA will be maintained during this time.

Allowing for weather and contractor availability, the reserve upgrade is anticipated to be completed by the end of November.

Updates will continue to be provided through the web page as changes occur.

Background

The City of Marion is proposing to upgrade the path within the reserve.

The project, costing $475,000 is partly funded by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport through the State Bicycle fund ($200,000), and has been designed to make it safer and more accessible for the mix of pedestrians, slow speed cyclists, children, and older persons that currently use the Reserve.

The scope of the proposed project will also include lighting, seating, and fencing improvements.

Consultation closed on April 19.
