What is planned for this space?

Lapwing Street Reserve is a local level playground designed to cater for people living and working within walking distance. This space will be less developed and provide environmental value to the community.

Key elements of the design include:

    • A bird themed 'nest' play structure with a slide
    • Ground level birdnest themed cubby with 'play' eggs
    • Swings and monkey bars or see saw
    • Log steppers
    • Irrigation and grassed kick about area with mini soccer goal
    • Additional trees and planting and new footpath
    • New furniture including picnic table and drinking fountain

For further information please refer to the Lapwing Street Reserve - Draft Concept Plan.

    Who decided on this upgrade?

Council endorsed a playground upgrade for Lapwing Street Reserve through the City of Marion's Open Space Plan (insert link) in June 2020.

When will this reserve be upgraded?

Construction is anticipated to start in 2022/23 financial year.

    Will a toilet be added?

A new toilet is not part of the scope for this project as this site is a local level playground. Toilets are allocated for significantly larger playgrounds.

Will this reserve get shade sails?

No, this is a local level playground and shade sails are endorsed for larger playgrounds only. There will be additional trees to provide shade into the future.

Why is the existing playground being removed?

The existing playground is being removed as it has reached the end of its asset life and now requires replacement. This consultation will help to shape the new look of this reserve upgrade.

Will a BBQ be added to this reserve?

A new barbeque is not part of the scope for this project as this site is a local level playground. Barbeques are allocated for significantly larger playgrounds.
