February 2024 - project update

During January and for the month to date, there has been limited construction activity onsite due to a delay in earthworks. Council is working through the next phase of the project which will be communicated to residents in the coming weeks.

December 2023 - project update

The Marino Community Hall is progressing well and there has been lots of activity onsite the last few months. See photos.

Work will start to slow down onsite over the Christmas period and will resume early January 2024.

Following the break the slab will be poured in late January and completion date for the project is estimated around June 2024.

Background

For many generations the Marino Community Hall has served the community of Marino and surrounding suburbs by providing a place to meet, try art, do yoga and occasionally have a dance.

A new purpose built centre is being built on the current site. The new Marino Community Hall will provide numerous social benefits through the delivery of arts, multicultural and social programs increasing community participation across all ages of the region’s population profile.

The City of Marion committed $3.3 million towards the Marino Community Hall redevelopment, the State Government committed $500k, and the Federal Government contributed $3 million to rebuild the facility.

Construction works, consisting of initial site preparation (removal of the current building) commenced mid-August 2023, and works are anticipated to be complete by June 2024.

The new facility

The purpose-built centre will include;

  • Various community activity spaces
  • Informal café space
  • A better interconnected facility with an identifiable frontage and expanded car parking
  • A facility capable of delivering a range of community programs
  • Car parking and landscaping
