Reclaiming Sturt River - art and environment

Join us for the launch event of public artworks created by South Australian artists that explore the environment of the Sturt River at Oaklands Wetland and Reserve from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, 26 September, 2021.

The event will be launched by Deputy Mayor Nathan Prior and include a Welcome to Country.

The public artworks include:

  • Birds of the Flood Plain by Ink and Ruby Studios

  • Life from above and below by Senman Creations

  • Tools for Future Use by Matt Fortrose

  • The Big Thaw by Matt Fortrose

  • Plastron by James Stewart

This family-friendly event will be held as part of Nature Festival SA and include self-guided walks to view artworks and explore the natural environment at the Oaklands Wetland.
The event will also include nature based activities including:

  • Nature journaling (small fee, bookings required, suitable for ages 5 +)

  • Smartphone nature photography (small fee, bookings required, suitable for ages 16+)

  • Nature and bird watching tours (all ages)

  • Nature inspired arts and crafts suitable for all ages

Bring your own picnic lunch, snacks, water bottle and picnic rug. A coffee van will be available.


The Reclaiming Sturt River Project cost $55,000. Council provided $40,000 of funding and Arts SA $15,000.
