Project update

We are happy to confirm that the final playground plan is now available for review!

Final plan

The open tender process has been finalised and construction is planned for March 2026 with completion by May 2026.

Background

The City of Marion is currently planning a playground upgrade at Southbank Boulevard Reserve, Sheidow Park. This project was identified as a key priority in the Open Space Plan 2024-2034.

The new playground design invites children into a vibrant, imaginative world that stimulates creativity and joy. The bright colours enhance cognitive development, helping children engage more deeply with their surroundings.

The design has increased the existing fenced area surrounding the playground (from 370m2 to 600m2) and has a new irrigated grass area within the fenced playground.

The planned upgrade will include:

Fully fenced playground

Main play structure with 3 slides and multiple climbing opportunities, different bridge crossings, junior shop front and play panel

Swings

Accessible loop path for junior scooters and trikes

New play equipment options

Irrigated turf area inside fence

Garden beds and tree planting

Drink fountain

Note: Existing irrigated turf, pathways, lighting, seating, shelter, shade sail, basketball court and toilet will be retained as part of the upgrade.

Community Consultation

Community consultation is complete. This was undertaken during November / December 2024 and included:

an onsite drop in session (27 November 2024)

a survey which provided for both adult and child feedback

a workshop with primary school students

The draft concept plan was updated based on the community feedback and can now be viewed:
