Background

We are delivering a priority bicycle and pedestrian link between Finniss Street and the Westfield Shopping Precinct, via Trott Grove, in Oaklands Park. This new link is designed to support local residents and those in adjacent suburbs to travel to and from the Westfield shopping, leisure and cultural precinct more safely and comfortably.

The link also contributes to the development of a Council-wide active travel network, connecting people to places they want to go, and builds upon the recently constructed Warracowie Way upgrade and pedestrian refuge over Diagonal Road.

The project is being delivered as part of the City of Marion's Walking and Cycling Guidelines and 4-Year Plan that we consulted on in August 2024.

The planned upgrades for the Trott Grove to Westfield project include:

Upgraded shared path between Boyle Street and Pemberton Street:

  • New 2.5m wide pedestrian and cycle path through the laneway
  • New lighting through the laneway
  • Wide shared path kerb ramps at the laneway entry / exit point
  • Staggered fence at path entry / exit points to slow wheeled devices

Intersection of Trott Grove and Diagonal Road:

  • Widened traffic island to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians
  • New cycle-only entry point into Trott Grove
  • Green cycle lane treatments
  • Line marking to slow turning vehicles

Trott Grove:

  • Cycle sharrows for cyclist visibility and directional guidance
  • Pavement upgrade
  • Replacing road cushions to maintain slow speeds

Next steps

The consultation process for the Trott Grove Walking and Cycling project concluded in October 2026,

The community supported the upgrades, and reported a strong preference to maintain parking availability, improve lighting, and maintain the existing trees through the laneway section.

Further design has been completed to ensure these aspects are achieved as far as possible. The new path through the laneway will be 2 metres wide and will be lit to meet shared path standards whilst avoiding light spill into adjacent properties.

We have planned to deliver the upgrades in late 2026 / early 2027.
